FAQs
How do Small Group Lessons & Large Group Lessons differ?
Small group lessons focus on individualized vocal coaching and musicianship in a tight-knit setting. Large group lessons bring everyone together for performance practice, musical interpretation, and theatrical expression. Both formats work together to develop well-rounded, confident young performers.
What is the required parent commitment?
Parents are expected to join their child during lessons to help them stay focused, encouraged, and supported throughout the session. We also ask families to carve out time for regular practice and treat lesson days as a priority. Your consistent involvement makes all the difference in your child’s success.
What happens if we need to miss a lesson?
If you know you’ll miss a lesson, we encourage you to attend a different session that week to stay on track. When that’s not possible, you can rewatch the full class on demand—every lesson is recorded and posted weekly.
How do the guided practice videos work?
Students receive short, engaging videos each week that walk them through their warm-ups, song practice, and key techniques—just like having their teacher beside them. These flipped lessons are designed to make daily practice easy to follow and highly effective. By the time they join class, they’re prepared and confident in participating and getting the most out of this live instruction.

Why group lessons instead of 1-on-1 instruction?
At DHVC Prep, group lessons are intentionally designed to combine the best of personalized coaching with peer-driven motivation, keeping students consistent, even when unexpected personal challenges arise. It also gives your child more touchpoints with their teacher each week, rather than relying on a single weekly lesson. We do offer a la carte private lessons to enrolled students who have an upcoming performance or would like some additional 1-on-1 assistance.
When are the lesson times?
Small Group Lessons (30 mins.) are offered Tuesdays & Wednesdays from 3 PM -9 PM Eastern Standard Time. Large Group Lessons (50 mins.) are offered Thursdays from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM & 6 PM - 9 PM Eastern Standard Time.
What do I need to participate in the Zoom Lessons?
In addition to the provided microphone and headphones, students need a laptop computer or desktop computer. We recommend making a free Zoom account for ease of use and ability to preset settings.
What performance opportunities are there?
Students participate in monthly studio showcase reels, where they prepare and record performances that highlight their growth. These regular spotlights build confidence, stage presence, and a sense of pride in their progress. Live performances are possible if there are 4 other DHVC Prep students are in your 25 mile radius and the students have prepared 4 songs in the program.
MUSICAL GENRES WE TEACH
We approach a variety of different genres of music on the foundation of classical vocal technique and studying the nuance and differentiation in vocal production to suit each style. Our aim at DHVC Prep is to give an introduction multiple styles of singing in performing so that they become versatile musicians and can choose to sing whatever genre speaks most to them as they get older.
